Teaching appointments for politically victimized

The Cabinet of Ministers that looked into the grievances of politically victimized persons in the past has granted approval to appoint 242 persons as teachers.

Accordingly the Cabinet has informed Provincial Chief Secretaries to take necessary steps to grant these trainee teacher appointments by relevant Provincial Councils with effect from 01 September, 2000 without payment of arrears and subject to the fulfilment of qualifications set out in the relevant Gazette Notification.

This is a Cabinet decision taken in the year 2001 and the decision was conveyed on August 27, 2008. Therefore these appointments have no relevance at all to the Western Provincial Council Elections, a press release issued by the Ministry of Education said.
