Order reserved in CMC case
Sandasen MARASINGHE
Colombo District Judge Sampath Wijeratne yesterday reserved order for
today in respect of the plaint filed to restrain granting tender by the
Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) to dispose garbage to two urban
divisions including the Fort division.
The Court issued the order after considering a plaint filed by
Municipal Councillor Milton Liyanage stating that granting tenders by
the CMC today is inconsistent with the prevailing Government tender
procedure.
The plaintiff cited Divisional Commissioner Hewahatage Sumanapala and
Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene as the defendants.
The plaintiff stated that the CMC had entered into a resolution to
takeover the garbage disposal of these two divisions by the CMC after
the expiry of the tender period of the earlier party. They reached this
resolution to save a large sum of money and grant a large number of
employment to the people.
But the defendants are attempting to grant tenders for the disposal
of garbage in these two divisions today in an illegal manner, the
plaintiff said.
