Operations on Thilan, Tharanga successful

“The injured Sri Lankan Cricketers are completely out of danger and
will be back in action in few weeks”, said Dr. Geethanjan Mendis,
Director General of the Institute of. Sports Medicine to Daily News
yesterday.
Tharanga Paranawithana with a shrapnel wound in his chest and Thilan
Samaraweera who had a shrapnel in his right leg underwent successful
surgeries conducted by Dr. Narendra Pinto in a private hospital in
Colombo.
”It will take around six weeks for them to recover,” added Dr. Mendis.
Samaraweera had a shrapnel in his right leg while Paranawithana had a
shrapnel in his chest.
Other players who were hospitalized were Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan
Thushara and Ajantha Mendis. The cricket team’s Assistant Coach Trevor
Farbrace suffered an injury to his arm.
They were discharged last morning except the two who underwent
surgeries.
Dr. Mendis added that despite the shock that the players have
undergone at the coward attack, they are in good morale and good health
and will be ready for cricket very soon.
