LTTE responsible for Lankan situation

Indian Minister tells public meeting:

The LTTE which eliminated all Tamil leaders and threw the Indo-Lanka Accord to the dustbin is solely responsible for the present situation in Sri Lanka, said India’s Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday.

UN tells LTTE:

Do not recruit civilians, allow them passage

The United Nations yesterday called on the LTTE to release the UN worker held hostage by them, to desist from further recruitment of civilians and to permit passage of tens of thousands of civilians remaining in the ‘Vanni Pocket’, including children.

More civilians fleeing LTTE bondage rescued

Over 109 civilians fleeing the LTTE in the Vanni reached the Navy and Army on Sunday morning. Another 400 sick and wounded civilians accompanied by their relatives had been rescued and ferried by the International Committee of the Red Cross yesterday morning.
