Chaminda Perera
Power Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage yesterday said more UNP
stalwarts are expected to join ranks with the Government during the
election campaign.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo, the minister said UNP
members and leaders at grassroots level in the Kandy district are not
happy with its leadership and have vowed to join the Government to
strengthen the President’s hand to eliminate terrorism and usher peace
to the country.
Over 20 Pradeshiya Sabha members in the Central Province who joined
Government’s ranks also spoke. “The UNP has failed to gather 100 persons
for a rally in the Kandy district.
Former Minister S.B. Dissanayake who is vying for the chief
ministerial slot in the Central Provincial Council earlier decided that
he would address meetings of over 1,000 persons,” he said.
“The Minister said Dissanayake dispite his earlier stand is now
addressing meetings of only six persons. This is the first time that the
UNP has degenerted to such a low level in the Central Province”, he
said. |
