Budget benefits for public sector

Commenting on the Budget 2009, Senior Economics Lecturer of the Peradeniya University Dr. Malaka Ranatilleke said measures such as reduction of fuel prices and increase of public servant’s cost of living allowances have brought relief to the ordinary people.

“To pass the benefit to the public, the Government should implement a system of sound management. The middle class too has been benefitted but the imposition of a cess and other duties has caused inconvenience to certain segments,” he said.

He also predicted larger benefits to the people when the development drive is further accelerated after the defeat of terrorism.
