Mihintale hit by mini-tornado

MIHINTALE: A mini-tornado in Mihintale following heavy rain on Tuesday night, completely destroyed a telecommunication signal tower interrupting communication.

Mihintale police OIC IP Mahanama said the mini-tornado hit the Mihintale area on Tuesday at around 8.30 p.m., completely damaging the telecommunications signal tower along the Anuradhapura road.

“The mini-tornado was experienced after the heavy rain which lasted for one and a half hours in Mihintale,” he added.

“No one was injured while damage to property were reported,” IP Mahanama told the Daily News.
