Scouts at the 45th Colombo Camporee organised by the Colombo District Branch of the Sri Lanka Scouts Association which will be held until Sunday at the Vihara Maha Devi Park. Fifty Scout groups consisting of 2,500 Scouts are camping out during the camporee along with 2,000 Cub Scouts and 500 Girl Guides attending the camporee. Tougher laws for rice trade

To prevent selling same variety under different names:

The Government has decided to bring in new measures to prevent traders from abusing stipulated rice prices by selling the same variety of rice under different brand names.

Air, water pollutants possible cause for rise in respiratory,  kidney diseases - Prof. Vitarana

The increase in the number of asthma, respiratory and kidney diseases could be due to air and water pollutants although it is not yet confirmed, Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitarana said.

Well-known beautician Nayana Karunaratne of Salon Nayana was the winner of the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 “ at the awards ceremony held at Galadari Hotel ,Colombo on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Women’s Chamber of Commerce for the fifth time. Karunaratne won the gold award for the Large category while Anoma Gamage of Daya Apparels and Shirani Jayasuriya of Huejay Flortculture won the Silver and Bronze awards respectively. Deputy Chairperson Ceylinco Group Cicille Kotelawela, Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Nayana Karunaratne Chairman Ceylinco Group, Lalith Kotelawela and the Chairperson Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce Ramya Weerakoon after presenting the award. ANCL was the print media sponsor for this event.
