Perahera jumbo runs amok creating chaos

An elephant which was to participate in the third Randoli Perahera last night, ran amok yesterday afternoon and created chaos near Deva Veediya in Kandy town.

Several mahouts intervened and chained the jumbo which tried to rip apart a traffic sign, averting a major incident, an eye witness said.

The Ratnapura Loku Aliya was to take part in yesterday’s Kataragama Devala Perahera before veterinary experts monitoring Perahera jumbos’ health ruled he was unfit to take part.
