Durdans breaks new ground introducing Micro Air Liposuction

Durdans Hospital has introduced the new state of the art micro air liposuction machine for the first time in Sri Lanka, the latest addition to the armamentarium of the plastic surgeon.

"Liposuction is all about reduction or removal of unnecessary body fat, signaling trimmer slimmer figures," states Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Dr Dulip Perera. "With people, especially ladies being much more figure conscious these days, liposuction is used all over the world quite extensively to give them the closest to a perfect figure."

Micro Air Liposuction is the new version of the conventional machine. It's a power assisted liposuction procedure that permeates strong vibrations to the liposuction cannula, which enhances the breakage of fat cells in the body. "Another advantage is that micro air liposuction becomes atraumatic and causes less bruising, while also being a shorter and easier procedure for the surgeon.

Less time is spent under anesthesia and a shorter stay at the hospital as a result," says Dr Perera who has already performed a number of procedures using micro air liposuction with successful results.

A pioneer plastic surgeon who has been instrumental in introducing modern plastic surgical techniques to Sri Lanka, Dr Perera points out that this type of liposuction is akin to simple surgery with immediate results.

"There are no crash diets, no work outs and no strenuous exercises. Also, liposuction can be performed on areas of the body that are otherwise impossible or difficult to work on conventionally."

He examples male gynaecomastia and areas where liposuction has already been performed; "Using the conventional method, it is impossible to perform liposuction on an area that has already had the procedure as there is fibrous tissue and a thickening of the tissues due to previous surgery."

He also mentions that micro air liposuction presents a huge boost to ancillary plastic surgical procedures including breast and abdominal work that require only a touch of liposuction.
