President, FCCISL Nawaz Rajabdeen presents a token of gratitude to President SCCI Tariq Sayeed. Past President, FCCISL Macky Hashim and Vice President, FCCISL Tissa Jayaweera, looks on.

President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tariq Sayeed visited the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). He had high praise for the FCCISL on the excellent way FCCISL conducted the Chamber Competition 2008, the first ever such competition in Sri Lanka.

He said that it was a tremendous effort and the spirit of team work that proved excellent in conducting this inaugural Chamber Competition. He said that it was not an easy task to conduct an event with such magnitude.

He said that although practise of acknowledging and encouraging the most innovative projects is a common phenomenon in a number of countries, initiation of such a competition in a country like Sri Lanka would serve as a source of inspiration for the leadership of various chambers.

He said that he is making some improvement in the SAARC Chamber Secretariat to ensure efficiency and have developed a website too. He said that the improvements he makes to the SAARC Chamber secretariat would pave the way for his successor to work in an easy environment.

Sayeed also said that he would make every endeavour to get a building of their own to house the SAARC Chamber Secretariat.

President, FCCISL Nawaz Rajabdeen said that the SAARC Trade Fair will be held in August at the BMICH and India will occupy 150 stalls and urged Pakistan too to come up in the same way. Sayeed responding said that he would field maximum support for the success of the SAARC Trade Fair.

He said that the Minister of Industries has agreed to release 100 acres of land to set up a ‘SAARC Village’ where the SAARC countries could set up industries in this village and export the products through Sri Lanka. He said that those industries would receive various benefits and also infrastructure would be provided.
