Janashakthi Insurance will go for an initial Public Offering in mid June to raise Rs 400 million to broadbase the share ownership to move forward with their expansion drive and strengthen the balance sheet.

Export earnings increase in March

Earnings from exports increased by 7.8 per cent, year-on-year, to US dollars 680 million. Agricultural exports, which grew by 29.1 per cent, year-on-year, largely contributed to this growth, with earnings from both tea and minor agricultural products increasing significantly in March 2008, the Central Bank said.

The ‘Free Spirit of Brandix’ will soar on a Colombo catwalk on Sunday, June 1, giving local audiences a rare and exclusive preview of some of the hottest new designs from Sri Lanka’s iconic apparel manufacturer. Some 60 unique garments in lingerie, loungewear and casualwear designed by the Brandix creative team will be modelled by top international and local models on the second day of ‘Colombo Fashion Statement’ one of the highlights of the ‘Colombo Vogue’ lifestyles weekend.

Several new telecommunications projects were implemented in 2007 to improve the capacity, technology, coverage and efficiently of the service. SLT allocated Rs. 9.25 billion as capital investment in 2007 for infrastructure development and other related enhancements. Out of the total allocation, 67 per cent was utilised during the year. SLT established a wholly owned subsidiary company in Hong Kong under the name “SLT Hong Kong Limited” with the aim of making it an important point of presence in SLT’s endeavour to connect Asia with the rest of the world through Sri Lanka.
