East would be united under one banner - UPFA Ampara District leader

With only seven days remaining for the PC polls in the East, the UPFA district leader for Ampara, Shantha Premarathne said yesterday that there won't be any Muslim, Tamil or Sinhala areas in the East in the future and the whole province would be united under one banner.

'Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya Awards' conferred on gallant Officers

The prestigious and colourful investiture ceremony for the conferment of the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya Awards was held yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat, with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Mahinda Rajapaksa presiding. The arrival of President Rajapaksa and his entourage in procession was heralded with the blowing of trumpets.

Cabinet Spokesman Media and Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa strongly condemned the recent criticism made by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe about the media and said as politicians they had no right to issue such statements about the media.

Lanka aims US$ 250m from electronic items

Chief Executive Officer International Operations of Orange Electric and Chairman of the Electrical and Electronic Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Industries Ananda Rajapakse told Daily News Business that they have made a US$ 250 million projection for this year.
