Canine passing out parade

A pack of 60 dogs who have completed a six month intensive training in the detection of explosives and drugs at the Kandy Asgiriya Police kennels will pass out at a special parade held at Asgiriya today

IGP Victor Perera will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

The parade will also mark the 60th anniversary of the Police kennels set up in 1948, said Officer-in-Charge Police Kennels Chief Inspector Lal Seneviratne.

Seneviratne said the 60 dogs are of a high pedigree including German Shephard, Labrador and Doberman. The Police Department was able to effect a foreign exchange saving of nearly Rs. 40 million by obtaining these dogs from local sources.
