Canine passing out parade

A pack of 60 dogs who have completed a six month intensive training
in the detection of explosives and drugs at the Kandy Asgiriya Police
kennels will pass out at a special parade held at Asgiriya today
IGP Victor Perera will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
The parade will also mark the 60th anniversary of the Police kennels
set up in 1948, said Officer-in-Charge Police Kennels Chief Inspector
Lal Seneviratne.
Seneviratne said the 60 dogs are of a high pedigree including German
Shephard, Labrador and Doberman. The Police Department was able to
effect a foreign exchange saving of nearly Rs. 40 million by obtaining
these dogs from local sources. |
