WB aid for higher education
The World Bank has extended grants to change Sri Lanka's university
system to match the modern needs. A Higher Education Ministry release
said, Minister Prof. Wiswa Wanapala will meet a team of educational
experts led by Benoit Millot of the World Bank today at 3 p.m. at the
Ministry in this regard.
This meeting is important as the Ministry is sphere heading a change
in the present university education system to meet the challenges of the
new world aiming to generate professionals from Sri Lankan universities
for the market orientated economy.
The World Bank has decided to grant assistance to achieve these
objectives without conditions, the release said. After meeting the
Minister, the World Bank Team will conduct a series of meetings with the
Heads of all universities, UGC and other educational institutions from
April 28 to May 09.
The members of the delegation are Harsh Aturupane (Senior Economist);
Lianqin Wang (Senior Education Specialist); Mohammed Allak (Consultant);
Sunil Chandrasiri (Consultant) and Norman Laroque (Consultant).
