Woman granted bail for forwarding fraudulent document to SLMC

Colombo High Court Judge W. A. T. Ratnayake yesterday granted bail to
a woman who was accused of forwarding a fraudulently prepared
certificate of Saint Petersburg State Medical University - named after
I.P. Pavlov to the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) after she was served
indictment.
Pathima Sihana Cader of Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha of Colombo 7 was
indicted with forwarding a forged document which declared that she
completed a degree at the Saint Petersburg State Medical University
between 1999 and 2003 to Sri Lanka Medical Council Chairman Dr. H.M.H.
Ratnayake Samarasinghe.
According to the indictment, she had forwarded the documents to the
Chairman on August 03, 2005.
High Court granted her Rs. 10,000 cash bail with two sureties of Rs.
100,000.
Sri Lanka Medical Council Registrar Nihal Jayasinghe Nonis,
Specialist Nanda Amarasekara, Sri Lanka Medical Council Chairman H.M.H.R.
Samarasinghe, a representative of the Russian Embassy and S.H.L. Gukri
of St Petersburg State Medical University were in the list of witnesses.
State Counsel Nayana Seneviratne appeared for the prosecution while
M. Anusha appeared for defence. |
