PMG will be an exemplary public servant indicates past service - NCP
Governor
Walter DAYARATHNE, Anuradhapura district special
correspondent
"If there is an individual or an artiste who is interested in the
future of his country, its people and children he should, like Abdul
Kalam the former President of India said, always nurture that ideology
in his mind and dream for it? Then one day such dreams would come to
reality" said North Central Province Governor, Karunaratna Divulgane.
Governor Divulgane was speaking at the reception accorded to Kamal
Bandara Dissanayaka at Ihala Halmillawa Eppawala. He was appointed the
Post Master General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Chief Incumbent of Galhena Purana Rajamaha Viharaya administered
pansil. Governor said he recalled that Kamal Bandara Dissanayaka was the
second person appointed to such a coveted position from Nuwara Kalaviya
area.
He said that he would be an exemplary public servant judging from his
ability to overcome the challenges which he had encountered in the past.
He said 'If anyone of the new generation wants to follow his
footsteps the best way to honour him is to climb to a higher rung than
what he had achieved. My earnest wish is that.'
The Governor said "flowers in the village tank bloom in the morning,
shrivel and wither away in the evening.
They pervade their sweet smell across the village for a few hours
only. But the inspiration a person like Mr. Dissanayaka can give to the
village is more effective and long lasting.
He said it was our forefathers in Nuwara Kalaviya who provided
security and protection to the up country heroes who temporarily had to
withdraw during their struggles for freedom from the colonial rulers.
Our new PMG can be identified as one of their descendants. According
to our chronicles every temple and cave found in Nuwara Kalaviya had
provided refuge to our Kanda Udarata warriors.
The Governor said when some one does an honourable job fighting
injustices, many obstacles will appear on his way. The best way to
overcome them is to do one's duty with commitment and dedication without
paying much attention to such hindrances.
He said "I am glad that a well deserving person like Mr. Dissanayaka
had been the choice of our authorities to be appointed to a high ranking
position like the PMG's post.
With the experience he had acquired during his long service in the
public sector and also as an ordinary villager in Rajarata I hope he
would deliver the goods quite ably."
The PMG M. K. B. Dissanayaka said that he could recall the days when
he ran about in the paddy fields in his village treading on Ipanella
(stubble) with his other playmates.
He said the best compliment he could receive was his being called as
Ape Eka (our guy) by the people of Rajarata.
He said, the activities of Postal Department are far reaching and
cover the entire island. In short even a letter to Velupillai Prabakaran
is delivered by us. It is my endeavour to do a meaningful service to the
public. A. W. P. Dissanayaka, A. Sapin and Somaweera Dissanayaka also
spoke.
Provincial Industries Ministry Asst. Secretary, K. B. V. D. N.
Mutugala, Provincial Industries Director J. M. J. Upulwedera, Grama
Sevaka R. S. D. Sivanthika and new PMG's parents also participated.
