Still Gender Blind?
International Women’s Day falls today:
It is quite interesting to examine the
participation of women in the labour market, in the face of dynamic
socio-economic circumstances. One may be inclined to query as to the
fact, whether women had been excluded, barred or more seriously been
expelled from the labour market rewards originating in the course of
globalisation.

Towards the social and political empowerment of Sri Lankan women
Women’s contribution towards National Production
is 60 per cent. They earn a significant amount of foreign exchange
through working abroad. Their contribution towards estate sector and
the garment industry is huge. We cannot bring women into politics at
once or overnight. We have to do it step by step. We have to empower
them first. Give them positions in grassroots level organisations.
