Adolf Chief Guest at Joes meet

The Annual Inter House Sports Meet of St. Joseph’s College Colombo will be held on 15th (Friday) February at College main grounds commencing at 8.30 a.m. The Chief Guest will be Mr. Adolf Silva, former Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; who captained Joes Athletic Team in 1961. SP


Maya - champion house of Mahamaya

Maya House became champions for the fourth successive year at the inter-house sports meet of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy, held at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy before a large crowd on Monday.

The inter house competition turned out to be a closely contested affair with the race for the championship fluctuating all the way. Maya House who finished on top aggregated 271 points and Yasodara House was 8 points behind with 263 points. In third place was Prajapathi House with 236 points and Sangamittha House with 228 points.

D. M. I. B. Dissanayake, Secretary to the Chief Minister of the Central Province and Secretary to the Ministry of Education was the chief guest and he distributed the awards along with the Principal of the school Mrs. Indira Withanachchi and the Director of Physical Education (CP) Mr. Gamini Obeysekera. The Girls Invitation relay was won by Pushpadana Girls College with Hillwood College and Girls High School in second and third places respectively. The Boys Invitation relay went to Vidyartha College with St. Sylvester’s College in second place and Dharmaraja College was in third place. Shamalika Anandagoda of Maya House was adjudged the Best Athlete of the meet.

The other individual best performances were: Champion Athletes - Under 13: Ayeshika Jayawardene (Yasodara) and Harindi Chandrapala (Maya), under 17: Kalani Welihena (Yasodhara), under 15: Akshala Maralanda (Maya), under 19: Tilini Wettage (Sangamittha), under 21: Ishani Jayatillake (Yasodara).

Best athlete track events: Shamalka Anandagoda (Maya), Best Athlete Field Events: Nishadi Ekanayake (Maya).
