Akashi lauds commitment to political solution

Japanese Special Peace Envoy Yasushi Akashi yesterday said the Japanese Government continued to support Sri Lanka in view of achieving sustainable peace based on a political solution, contrary to speculation regarding foreign aid stoppage by Japan with the annulment of the Ceasefire Agreement.

Iranian help for socio-economic, cultural sectors

Forces poised to destroy Tigers

The Sri Lankan military wants to destroy the Tigers and conclude 25 years of war after the ceasefire ends today, a military spokesman said yesterday. Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told Deutsche Presse-Agentur in Colombo that the military was already putting pressure on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at various fronts in the North.

CIC invests Rs. 50m on tissue culture lab

CIC Agri-Business Centre will invest Rs. 50 million on their tissue culture laboratory to produce plants for the local and export market. Assistant General Manager (Production) of CIC Agri-Business Priyanga Dematawa told the Daily News Business, that the tissue culture laboratory is one of the most modern labs in the country that produces high quality plants.
