Sportsman Yasaran ‘Best Student’

Yasaran Bandara Pitawela Tennakoon an outstanding athlete and a Year
V student of Trinity College, Kandy was awarded the J. L. P. Perera
Silver Medal for being the ‘Best Student’ for the year 2007 at the
Trinity Primary Section.

He won the Kandy District and Central Province Champion Trophies in
the under 8, 10 and 11 age categories. 2007 was the best year for this
promising teenage athlete as he became champion in six different sports.
Among them are the Kandy District Schools Sports Meet, Provincial
Schools Meet and the Quadrangular meet (Trinity, Royal, S. Thomas and
Maris Stella) held early this year.
Yasaran is an allround cricketer as well as a swimmer, chess and
badminton player and his talent is not limited to sports only.
He is also an orator in Sinhala and English. He has won all-island
competitions in music, English speech and drama and written contests.
Yasaran is a pupil of Mrs. Vajira Basnayake Soysa of the School of
Speech, Drama and Music.
He is the son of Dhammika Pitawela, a businessman of Kandy and
Thushara Tennakoon, a teacher attached to the staff of Mahamaya Girls
College, Kandy. |
