Royal Int’l School marks 16th anniversary

A series of religious programmes were held at the Royal International School, Kurunegala to mark the 16th anniversary of the school. These programmes were organised by the tutorial staff and the students Council under the guidance and instructions of Sandra Wanduragala, the Managing Directress, M. F. Mohideen, the Executive Director and A. M. Karunaratne, the Principal.

The Buddhist programme was conducted by Ven. Kumbukwewe Buddhivisuddhi Thera, the Islamic programme by Moulavi A.M. Kismath of Weherabanda Mosque, the Christian programme by Fr. Terrance Kannangara, Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Cathedral, Kurunegala and the Hindu Programme by Priest Kumaraswamy Sarma of Uppuranayaki Amman Kovil, Kurunegala.

An all night pirith ceremony followed by a Sanghika daana was held.

The Principal of Royal International School A.M. Karunaratne said, this is a multi-racial and multi-religious school. We respect all religions alike. We should always try to purify our thoughts. We should not try to escape problems, but face them with courage. Today moral values are declining in the society.

Education must be not only intellectual, but moral, because a good character is more important than even learning. The great practical object of religion is moral conduct and character. We should teach our children the value of leading lives according to their respective religions.
