Two die, 46 injured in private bus mishap

Two persons died and 46 others including an infant injured when a private bus from Talawakelle to Nawalapitiya ran off the road and hurtled down a 150 metre precipice in Dimbula, Queensbury area around 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Nawalapitiya Police said the dead have been identified as Mohamed Kaleem and conductor K. Sunil. Forty four injured persons were admitted to the Nawalapitya Hospital and two of them later transferred to Kandy General Hospital.

Four of the injured are in critical condition, hospital sources said. The bus has been carrying nearly 100 passengers as it was the last bus for the day to Nawalapitiya. Dimbula Police are investigating under OIC Inspector Sumith Gamini’s directions.
