Vehicles declared 'spare parts' to evade duty:

The Preventive Division, main enforcement arm of the Sri Lanka Customs, yesterday uncovered a massive illegally imported vehicle racket following the detection of a container with three vehicles valued at Rs.12 million imported to Sri Lanka from Japan under the pretext of importing spare parts.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake yesterday categorically denying certain statements by some UNP Parliamentarians, said only seven aircraft at the Anuradhapura Air Force base have been destroyed in Monday's LTTE attack.

Bond to stabilise rupee

The Government will obtain the US$ 500 million loan at an annual interest of 8.25 per cent, which will have a long-term positive impact on the economy, Assistant Governor Central Bank, Dr H.N. Thenuwara said.
