DSS and Thomians - joint hockey champions

HOCKEY: D.S. Senanayake College and S. Thomas' College were declared joint champions in the under nine hockey final of the Colombo Schools hockey championship which was played at the Astro turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo recently. The match ended in a goalless draw as both teams failed to score during the match.

Royal College beat Isipathana College which went to the full distance when both sides were unable to score goals during the normal and extra time and Royal finally won the match by two goals to one on penalty strokes.

D.S. Senanayake stickers entered the final when they defeated Royal College by one goal to nil in the semi finals. In the other semi final S. Thomas' College beat Isipathana College by one goal to nil to enter the final.

Visakha Vidyalaya emerged victorious in the under 15 age group in the Colombo Schools Hockey tournament when they overcame Gothami Balika Vidyalaya by one goal to nil at the Astro turf.

Musaeus College secured the third place when they registered a convincing eight goals to nil victory over Bishop's College. Visakha Vidyalaya booked their position in the final after having won against Musaeus with a comprehensive margin of five goals to nil while Gothami girls beat Bishop's College by one goal to nil in the semi finals.

Royal College beat St. Peter's College by two goals to one in a closely contested match to bag the under 17 hockey title in their final encounter of the Colombo Schools Hockey tournament played at Astro turf, recently.

Ananda College accounted for the third place when they defeated St. Benedict's College by a close margin of two goals to one. Royal College cruised into the final when they beat Ananda College by four goals to two on penalty strokes.

This tournament which was organised by the Colombo Schools Hockey Committee saw altogether twenty three schools taking part. Dhammika Wijesundara a former international sticker who is the Brand Manager Singer 'Sisil' graced the occasion as the chief guest.
