Ratnayake MMV Girls and Boys carry Mobitel Trophies

ATHLETICS: Sri Lanka Army's women soldiers set up a new Sri
Lanka record for the Medley relay on the final day of the Relay Carnival
yesterday at Sugathadasa Stadium. There were also two meet records
lowered yesterday by the A. Ratnayake MMV Girls in the U-18 4 x 200m and
Rajasinghe MMV, Hanwella in the boys under 16 events.
A. Ratnayake MMV bagged both Boys and Girls Championships collecting
128 and 139 points respectively. They were followed by St. Benedict's
College, Colombo and Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura with 62 points
and 56 points in the two categories.
Sri Lanka Army men and women carried away the Open Championships on
the final day with 50 and 54 points respectively. In the women's section
Sri Lanka Air Force women finished a close second with 48 points. Army's
'B' team too ended as runners up to 'A' team with a total of 43 points.
Sri Lanka Army women quartet who competed in the Medley Relay clocked
a time of 3 mts 42.48 secs for the event. The earlier record stood at
3.45.01 secs.
Girls under 18, 4 x 200 m quartet from A. Ratnayake MMV, Walala
returned a time of 1.47.44 secs to erase the existing record for the
event. The other meet record was set by Rajasinghe MMV, Hanwella
athletes when they finished the under 16, 4 x 200 clocking 1.37.14 secs.
R. H. Amali Nisansala of D. S. Senanayake MMV, Madampe who collected
a total of 3187 points was the winner of the Hepththlon which was
conducted along with the Relay Carnival. Meanwhile the Decathlon which
too was held alongside this event was won by Nuwan Wasana Bandara of
Ambagamuwa MV, Udabulathgama.
Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya won the Girls Under 12
championship with 20 points, while the Boys championship in the same age
group was won by Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa.
The under 13 championship trophies for Boys and Girls were won by
Holy Family Convent, Colombo while Royal College and Maris Stella
College who had equal points (20) were declared as joint champs.
Anuradhapra MMV girls and boys carried away the under 14 championship
trophies when they had 25 and 19 points respectively.
Ladies College, Colombo Athletes who managed to gather 26 points won
the Girls under 16 trophy while in the same category it was A. Ratnayake
MMV, Walala with 37 points who were in front.
The under 18 and 20 Boys and Girls categories were a completely
dominated by the athletes of Ratnayake MMV, Walala. Walala MMV athletes
won three out of four events, U-18 girls U-20 girls and U-18 boys and in
the under 20 boys event they were placed second behind St. Benedict's
College.
These three meet which was a well organised one was sponsored by Sri
Lanka Telecom Mobitel. The Chief Guest on the final day was Director
General of Education (Sports) L. K. Jayaweera. Nalin Perera, Chief
Executive Officer, Marketing of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and Major
General Palitha Fernando, President of Sri Lanka Athletic Association
too graced the occasion as guests of honour. |
