Bid to explore Lanka-Yuan Province business opportunities

TRADE FAIR: A 20 member business delegation led by Minister of
Exports, Professor G. L. Peiris will leave today to explore investment
opportunities between Sri Lanka and Yuan Province in China.
They would also participate in the Kunmin Trade fair where there
would be overseas investors as well. According to the President of the
Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCISL) Nawaz Rajabdeen,
who organised this event the delegation is looking at establishing links
and also attracting investors to set up joint ventures in Sri Lanka.
Kunmin province is keen to invest in the local power generation and
infrastructure related redevelopment project in Sri Lanka. Tourism too
would be promoted. He said that the Minister will play a vital role in
this regard.
The local business delegation would comprise of the agrarian,
industry and service sector. "Therefore, the members of the delegation
would look at finding machinery for agriculture and for other
industries," he said. Finding hybrid varieties too is another area that
would be perused.
Rajabdeen said that the FCCSL in April signed MoU with the Kunmin
Chamber of Commerce and as a result Kunmin Chamber would provide 20
stalls to Sri Lanka free of charge. "In addition they have also agreed
to be brokered between local and Chinese companies," he said.The follow
up of meetings would be coordinated by the Kunmin Chamber which has
promised to send a business delegation after this event to Sri Lanka. |
