Dushyantha Basnayake remanded

COLOMBO: Colombo Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardane
yesterday ordered the remand of Director Ceylon Business Equipment and
Financial Director of Maubima newspaper Dushyantha Basnayake after
revoking his detention order.The order is valid until May 8.
Earlier, the Magistrate impounded the passport of Tiran Alles, former
Chairman of Aviation Authority and of the Maubima Newspaper who is
currently under investigation for alleged links with the LTTE and
extended the detention of Dushyantha Basnayake.
Basnayake who was held in detention until yesterday for alleged
connections with the LTTE was produced before the Colombo Chief
Magistrate by the Terrorist Investigation Department.The TID in a report
submitted to court stated that it was also conducting investigations
pertaining to a land which Communication Business Equipment (CBE) had
purchased in Pitakotte in the name of Anna Lakshmi who is the mother of
Emil Kanthan, a leader of the LTTE intelligence unit.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the TID to produce the suspect in courts
on May 8 together with a further report on the investigation.
