Vesak Mihira vehicle parade begins

COLOMBO: Following religious observances and rituals under the
patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the ‘Vesak Mihira’ vehicle
parade began its islandwide journey on Tuesday morning from Temple
Trees.
The ‘Vesak Mihira’ vehicle parade which is directed by the ‘Shanthi
Padanama’ of Colombo, envisages the rejuvenation of the Buddhist way of
life, prior to Vesak Poya day, among the Buddhist public, during its
nine day running.
The parade which left from Temple Trees on Tuesday, reached Galle
yesterday and is expected to reach Embilipitiya today, Kotiyakumbura
tomorrow, and in Naula the day after. It is scheduled to be in Padeniya
via Anuradhapura on April 29 and in Nittambuwa via Negombo on April 30.
The parade will be back at the Colombo Parliamentary Complex on May 2
for the ‘Vesak Kalapaya’, after passing the Kadawatha Ranmuthugala
Viharaya on May 01st.
The parade that will feature a convoy of 29 vehicles, will consist of
14 creative vehicles and include the casket carrying the sacred relics
and the 12 statues of ‘Maithri Bosath’ as well.
The Chief Incumbent of the Shanthi Padanama, Seruwila Buddhist Centre
Viharadhipathi Kotapola Amarakeerthi Thera and others participated.
