INGO personnel seeking diplomatic status, a disturbing news
Sri Lanka United National Association of Canada
writes to President
Canada: The Sri Lanka United National Association of Canada in a
letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa has opposed the Berghoff
Foundation, an INGO, or any other NGO personnel being given diplomatic
recognition however benevolent they may appear to be.
They said they have come to learn of a most disturbing development
where an international non-government organisation known as the Berghoff
Foundation has sought diplomatic status for three of their
representatives serving in Sri Lanka.
The letter: We are aware that this INGO has at various times acted in
a detrimental manner aimed at directing Sri Lanka's national security
policies, which is a subject that should only be entrusted to and
managed by capable persons nominated by the national government.
The Berghoff Foundation has previously used their ample funding to
influence and manipulate Sri Lankan journalists and politicians, in
order to advance their alien agenda and leverage some degree of control
in highly sensitive areas including national defence and security, which
are sacrosanct to our nation's independence and sovereignty.
Interference of this nature by foreign based NGOs or foreign funded
NGOs should be frowned upon and immediately brought to task before any
damage could result to the national interest.
We totally oppose the Berghoff Foundation or other NGO personnel
being given diplomatic recognition however benevolent they may appear to
be. We believe that the activities of this INGO should be closely
monitored as its agendas have tended to interfere with the nation's
inner structure and ability to function independently.
Far from even considering such an absurd request, legal measures
should be introduced without delay to both curb and control the hitherto
unhindered operations of the Berghoff Foundation and all other INGOs and
NGOs functioning in the island. |
