President opens Vajiragiri Buddha Mandiriya

TANGALLE: President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the
tsunami-devastated, Tangalle Vajiragiri Buddha Mandiriya yesterday
The Buddha Madiriya was one of the thirty two tsunami-stricken
temples in the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts, which was
renovated under the special 'Dharmashakthi' project underway.
The project which is directly under the 'Dharmashakthi' National
Committee and 'Sahajeevana Padanama', is responsible for the
construction of four new tsunami-stricken temples in Hambantota. It
receives special sponsorship from the Norwegian government.
Railways Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Dhakshina Lanka
Authority Chairman Ranjith Gunasekera, Tangalle Mayor Anil Sellahannedi,
Dharmashakthi National Committee Secretary Ven. Madampagama Assaggi
Thera and other religious dignitaries were present at the opening
ceremony. |
