Disciplined citizens needed for country to prosper: PM
RANTEMBE: A country can never prosper unless citizens are well
disciplined , Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said.
The National Cadet Corps in its curriculum of training has stressed
on discipline, adherence to law, inculcation of virtues, sociality and
courtesy among the principal motives of training.
Accordingly, it has succeeded to gift to the nation a host of
glorious sons spanning over three generations," Wickramanayake said as
chief guest at the 125th anniversary celebrations of the National Cadet
Corps.
The Prime Minister said he was happier to attend the 125th
anniversary of the Cadet Corps than he was when he attended the Herman
Loos de Zoysa Trophy Camp of the Cadet Corps some time back and he was
proud to find old cadets among high ranking officials in security
services and other places in various fields.
Wickremenayake said moral erosion and ethical decadence among the
younger generation are major challenges confronting elders today.
"Extending cadet training to all schools will tremendously help
reverse this trend. Students who are cadets during young days are apt to
be punctual, methodical, creative and disciplined later in life. Such
young men are capable of pushing forward the development process," he
said. |
