Army detects six claymore mines in Kondavil

ARMY personnel have recovered six claymore mines in the Jaffna peninsula on Independence day, February 4.

The Army media unit said that an army patrol team found the six claymore mines at an abandoned cemetery in Kondavil, Jaffna.

Kondavil area is where a group of soldiers travelling in a tractor trailer were killed in a claymore blast in December last year.

Seven army men were killed in the attack.

Along with the six claymore mines, six detonators and a cord to connect the mines with the detonator were also found by the army men.

These items were found around 8.30 p.m. Meanwhile three hand grenades, two T-56 magazines along with 56 rounds of ammunition were also found in Valikamam area by troops at 9.30 p.m. on February 4.
