Police promotions from today
POLICE Officers who have been waiting for promotions for a
considerable period of time, without being promoted to their due ranks
will receive their overdue promotions from today on the orders of
President Mahinda Rajapakse.
This scheme of promotions comes into effect from today as the
President is keen in resolving problems in the Police Department and
making it more efficient, productive and people-friendly.
A media release from the Government Information Department said
yesterday that it has been reported to the President that the undue
delay in the implementation of the scheme of promotion procedures had
forced the Police officers to remain in the positions they hold right
now and that the situation has badly reflected on their efficiency and
low productivity.
Last week the President ordered Inspector General of Police Chandra
Fernando to initiate action immediately to resolve the present status of
the Police Department by giving promotions to those whom such promotions
are due.
The IGP has said that following the orders of the President he would
take steps to implement the promotion scheme, from today.
The Information Department quoting the IGP states that as a result of
the delay in giving promotions, Police officers have been compelled to
remain in the same posts for 10 to 15 years and that has had an adverse
impact on the police force.
The following promotions will come into effect from today on the
orders of the President:
(1) Inspectors of Police who have been in service for more than four
years and possess the necessary qualifications will be promoted to the
rank of Chief Inspectors with effect from February 6,2006.
(2) Sub-Inspectors who have the required basic qualifications will be
promoted to the posts of Inspectors of Police, with effect from February
6,2006.
(3) Police Sergeants and Police Constables who have completed the
required period of service and possess the basic qualifications would
also be promoted to the rank they deserve within a few days. |
