Police probe firearms duo

Cinnamon Gardens Police investigating the Fijian and Sri Lankan taken into custody for allegedly possessing firearms are probing whether the duo have been involved in other crimes.

Jimmy Bola of Fiji and Joseph Luman of Kundasale produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardene were remanded till January 20.

Cinnamon Gardens Police told court that they searched a house at Barnes Place, Colombo 7 on a warrant from the Magistrate and found a 9 mm pistol, several parts of two revolvers and 197 live bullets. The house owner was not at home when Police searched the house.

The Judge directed Police to submit a further report in connection with the investigations into the arrest of the two on the next date. Colombo DIG Pujit Jayasundera directing investigations into the firearms racket deployed a special team to conduct investigations.
