SLFP dedicated to PM's victory - D.M. Jayaratne

"There is no rift in the SLFP over the candidature of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse for the forthcoming Presidential Election. There was no such division within the party at all," said Post and Telecommunications and Udarata Development Minister D.M. Jayaratne. The Minister was addressing a meeting at Nugawela, Kandy.

"On the contrary, all SLFPers are dedicated and committed to ensure the Prime Minister's victory. He was appointed presidential candidate unanimously by the party," he added.

The UNP is trying to deceive the masses by propagating various kinds of falsehood to refrain the people from supporting Prime Minister Rajapakse at the election."

The people were aware of the UNP's infamous plots and have already decided to whom they should vote.

Another allegation is that the SLFP led alliance is working to protect the rights of Sinhala community.

But what is wrong in talking about their rights when others could talk about the rights of other communities? he asked.

The intention of Prime Minister Rajapakse and the SLFP was committed to protect and safeguard the basic human rights of the people of all communities within a united Sri Lanka, without any discrimination against any community.

The people of this country have not forgotten as to who massacred nearly 60,000 youth of this country. They are aware who conducted torture houses and they could not be missled or deceived, the Minister added.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Central Provincial Minister of Power and Energy and Highways Ediriweera Weerawardhana participated.
