Engine drivers to become railway pilots ?

THE Transport Ministry has appointed a special committee to look into the possibility of changing the designation of locomotive drivers of the Railways Department.

A spokesman said the committee was appointed by the Ministry Secretary on the directive of Transport Minister Felix Perera to study the legal implications of changing the drivers' designation to 'Railway Pilot'.

The Committee headed by Retired Judge of the Court of Appeal Chandradasa Nanayakkara comprises Deputy Superintendent of Railways Department Nalaka Bandara, Chief Engineer (Tracks and Bridges) W. P. M. Fernando and Director Planning of the Transport Ministry Sunil Arsacularatne.
