Explosive device found in Chilaw

SECURITY in Chilaw town was beefed up yesterday following the discovery of a powerful home made bomb near the Pearl roundabout around 1.20 in the morning, on the eve of a JVP Puttalam district party convention.

Some JVP members decorating the roundabout for the convention have spotted the one kilo explosive device. Police believe that it has been made locally. It was handed over to the Chilaw police security post. The police have informed the army bomb squad.

The JVP convention was to be held at Sudasuna Hall at Chilaw town yesterday evening chaired by JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.
