Govt. releases funds to reconstruct houses
THE Government has commenced the release of financial grant for
reconstruction of houses affected beyond the hundred meter buffer zone
at the rates of Rs. 250,000 and Rs. 100,000 for houses fully and partly
damaged by the tsunami disaster respectively, says a release from the
National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).
This task is being attended by the Housing Development Authority (NHDA)
through their Technical Offices under the coordination of District
Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries.
This program is implemented under the guidance of Tsunami Housing
Reconstruction Unit (THRU) set up to formulate and implement the Tsunami
Disaster Housing Program.
The NHDA has already completed its survey to assess the damages to
houses caused by tsunami. Based on the data collected, families of the
houses identified as fully destroyed and partially damaged are granted
financial assistance by the Technical Officers of NHDA on phased out
basis depending on the progress of reconstruction.
In addition to disbursement of financial assistance, the NHDA is
engaged in providing technical advisory service to affected families to
reconstruct their houses, the release said. |
