One million new phone lines before year end

THE Government plans to supply one million new telephone connections countrywide before the end of this year, Posts and Telecommunications Minister D.M.Jayaratne said.

The minister who was the Chief Guest at a new e-certificate service launch at the Examinations Department yesterday said there were 715,000 customers on the waiting list to receive new telephone connections.

"Some of these customers had been waiting for the past 6 to 11 years," the Minister said.
