Inter-University students federation assist tsunami affected students

The Inter-University Students Federation in a media release last Wednesday announced that the 2nd stage of their labour operations in aid of tsunami affected students will be carried out from January 20 to 24 in the districts of Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.

Renovation of devastated school buildings, colourwashing, polishing of furniture and clearance of debris and clearing the school premises will be attended to by their volunteers, during this period, the media release stated.

The Inter-University Students Federation initiated the first stage of this program on January 10, when the universities were under closed conditions.

Their membership joined the national drive of rehabilitation by helping to distribute dry rations and other material aid, by conducting seminars for Advanced Level students and providing them with tutorial notes.

They also collected Rs. 100 from each member out of Mahapola Scholarship aid. Presently they plan to distribute 40,000 school text books. They hope to establish a special fund to reconstruct school buildings.
