by Florence Wickramage Ten thousand kilos of Indian rice stored in a warehouse in Panadura belonging to the Social Services Department has been found missing. This has surfaced during an inspection tour conducted by the Acting Minister of Social Services S. M. Chandrasena to the Panadura warehouse. The Acting Minister has attributed this shortage to poor administration of the warehouse by the authorities. The warehouse has been sealed off by the Panadura Police. On inquiries made by the Acting Minister the Storekeeper of the warehouse has admitted that he loaded 10,000 kilos of rice upon receiving telephone instructions from a high official of the Panadura Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society. He has further admitted that tsunami relief goods and cooperative stocks are stored in the same place. According to the Assistant Government Agent Panadura D. A. L. P. Perera, no stocks could be removed from the Warehouse without specific instructions from him. The Panadura Police are conducting further inquiries. |
