LTTE disregards latest conditions

The LTTE stayed away from attending a meeting at the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) office in Vavuniya on Saturday, barely 24 hours after it took an undertaking with the SLMM in Vavuniya that they would not hoist LTTE flags but would sit together with SLMM and Security Forces on a daily basis to discuss day-to-day matters, the Operational Headquarters said in a release.

The Security Forces and LTTE agreed to meet daily until the LTTE commemorative events are over after issuing a statement jointly signed by LTTE and the Security Forces on Friday at a meeting chaired by the SLMM.

Brigadier Srinath Rajapakse, Brigadier General Staff, Lt. Colonel A. Kariyakarawana, Colonel General Staff of the Security Forces Headquarters Wanni, Miskin, SSP Vavuniya and Neville Guruge, SP were at the SLMM venue as scheduled but LTTE representatives were not present. Security Forces informed the SLMM on the dubious nature of the LTTE's approach and behaviour.

Meanwhile, the LTTE flag raised at Veppamkulam continued to be at the same location. The SLMM has been informed .
