LTTE pistol men yesterday gunned down another intelligence operative of the Sri Lanka Army along with a Tamil civilian while they were in Kaduruwela town yesterday afternoon around 1.30 pm, Police said. According to Police, two men came in a motorbike fired on Army soldier and a Tamil civilian.

Lance Corporal Ajith Dassanayake of the 1st Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, attached to the Military Intelligence died on the spot due to pistol-shot injuries received to his head and chest.

The civilian, Wasanayagam Prabhakaran succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital.

The soldier riding a motorcycle from Minneriya Army camp was in town to pay telephone bills when pistol men abruptly fired on him and his pillion-rider at point-blank range. The civilian was on the motorbike with the soldier at that point of time.

The Police and troops cordoned off the area and arrested two bike riders with a pass issued by LTTE in their possession. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission was informed about this criminal act. The Polonnaruwa Police and the Military Police have commenced investigations.

This was the eighth Army intelligent operative, confirmed to have been killed by pistol men in the North and East and in Colombo after the cease-fire agreement was signed, military sources added.
