After many years steps are now being taken to address the main concerns of the Education Service Personnel (eg. teachers, principals, teacher educators and Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS) on an accelerated action plan. A media release from the Education Ministry states that together with key Teacher Trade Unions, the Teacher Service Minute is being amended. Accordingly, teacher promotions, and methods of being included into the teaching service, will be designed. Grievances of teachers who did not receive promotions since October 1994, will be addressed by this method, and measures for teachers to get their annual promotions will be developed. Similarly the Principals Service Minute is being amended. The Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS) Class I cadre of 200 has not been filled for the past 5 years. Now the final stage of preparation of the seniority list has been completed and submission; have been invited by concerned parties. Simultaneously, Class II SLEAS Officers who have served for more than 10 years will receive promotions based on their performance. Steps are being taken to admit candidates in: SLEAS Class III, based on the examination held in 2002. The Public Service Commission (PSC) approval is waited to proceed with this process rapidly. In future all examinations connected to recruitment into SLEA and promotion of SLEAS officers will be held according to a calendar every year, from January 2005. All these initiatives are being taken by the Ministry after a lapse of over 5 years. |
