Govt for early resumption of talks - President President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga received Norwegian Foreign
Minister Jan Petersen at the President's House yesterday on his return
from Kilinochchi. The Norwegian Foreign Minister briefed the President on
his meeting with the LTTE leadership and explained the LTTE views on the
steps to be adopted towards the resumption of direct negotiations with the
Sri Lankan Government, the Presidential Secretariat said. India will not harm Tamils' welfare - Indian PM Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured that India will not
do anything that would go against the welfare of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Singh gave the assurance to MDMK leader Vaiko who met him to register his
party's protest against the proposed Indo-Sri Lanka Defence Cooperation
