President to attend first World Buddhist Sangha Youth Conference

from Upali Rupasinghe at Buddha Gaya

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who is visiting Buddha Gaya on Sunday on pilgrimage to the Sri Maha Bodhi Temple will also attend the First Conference of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth to be held at the Maha Bodhi Society of India Centre, Buddha Gaya.

Over 300 young monks from different sects of Buddhism and from different countries have already arrived at Buddha Gaya to attend the conference.

The conference will be presided over by Ven. Palwatte Seewali Thera, Bhikkhu-in-Charge of the Maha Bodhi Centre, Buddha Gaya.

The State government of Bihar has made elaborate security arrangements for the President's visit. She will be accompanied by Mangala Moonasinghe, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in India, Lakshman Kadirgamar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and High Officials from Governments of India and Sri Lanka.

Officials and Members of the Buddha Gaya Temple Management Committee and Maha Sangha headed by Ven. P. Seewali Thera, Bhikkhu-in-Charge, Buddha Gaya Maha Bodhi Centre, Ven. Bodhipala Thera, Bhikkhu-in Charge of the Sri Maha Bodhi Administration and Ven. M. Annaruda Thera General Secretary of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth, will receive the President and the Ministers at the main entrance of the Sri Maha Bodhi Temple.
