Jayantha Dhanapala has not resigned - Mangala

Cabinet Spokesman Mangala Samaraweera yesterday denied reports appearing in a Tamil daily newspaper that Peace Secretariat Chief Jayantha Dhanapala has resigned.

"He has not resigned. He has not given a letter of resignation to the President. This fabrication is an attempt to sabotage the peace process," Minister Samaraweera said.

In a separate announcement, the Presidential Secretariat said "such baseless stories are frequently published with intent to sabotage the ongoing peace initiatives".

The Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat Jayantha Dhanapala is on leave and overseas to spend time with his family, the Secretariat said.
