This filling station in Colombo 7, usually replete with the latest luxury vehicles, received a rare vehicle a couple of days ago; a bullock cart. The cart owner came to the filling station to refill his tank with the poor man’s fuel, Kerosene. Here he has a friendly chat with the staff, who are more used to filling the tanks of mechanical beasts.

The Special Investigation Unit probing the alleged Rs. 1 million fraud at the Samurdhi Society Development Fund by former UNP Co-operative Minister Abdul Cader told Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena yesterday that they wanted to arrest former Samurdhi Society Development Fund Director General Kumari Navaratne, now in USA, in connection with investigations.

Malwatte Mahanayake will boycott politicians' functions if no unity

The Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Maha Vihara chapter said they would be compelled to boycott functions attended by politicians if the Mahanayake's repeated requests to all political parties to unite to find a lasting solution to the ethnic conflict were disregarded.
