Distribution of fuel resumes

Petroleum distribution resumed to normal yesterday with the normalisation of supplies to filling stations following the suspension of a strike called by Trade Unions on Friday.

Large number of policemen have laid down life for country: President

During the period of 100 years a large number of police personnel laid down their lives in the fight against the insurrections and terrorism. Ironically the police force continued to be the hub of public criticism, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said.

President orders urgent hire of private water bowsers for drought hit areas

The Human Disaster Management Council of the President's Office and the Social Services Department last week directed Divisional Secretaries in drought-hit areas of the North Central and Southern provinces, to urgently hire private water bowsers, to ensure enough drinking water to the affected families.
